Tirta Gangga Palace
Meaning "water from the Ganges," Tirta Gangga is one of Bali's most beautiful royal water gardens, fed by a sacred natural spring high in the hills of eastern Bali. Stone stepping stones wind through ornamental lily ponds, tiered fountains, and sculpted mythological figures, all set against a breathtaking backdrop of emerald rice terraces and the towering peak of Mount Agung. Built in 1946 by the last King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, the garden remains a place of active spiritual significance for the Balinese — and one of the island's most serene and photogenic destinations.
The centerpiece of the complex is the magnificent eleven-tiered Nawa Sanga fountain, which rises majestically from the largest pool and is surrounded by intricate stone carvings and statues that reflect the finest traditions of Balinese craftsmanship. The water that fills the pools flows from a natural spring considered holy by Balinese Hindus, who believe it carries purifying properties — it is used to this day for religious ceremonies and rituals throughout the region.
Visitors can stroll the stepping stones, admire the statuary, take a refreshing dip in the sacred pools, or simply sit and absorb the extraordinary tranquility of the gardens.
