One of Bali's oldest and most revered Hindu temples, Batuan Temple dates to the 11th century and stands as a masterpiece of classical Balinese architecture. Its ancient split gates and towering shrines are adorned with intricate stone carvings depicting mythological figures, demons, and deities — layers of history etched in volcanic rock. Located in the village of Batuan in Gianyar, the temple also gave its name to the famous Batuan style of painting, making it a landmark of both spiritual and artistic significance on the island.
